About Friedell PTSA

We are the parent-teacher/staff-student organization for Friedell. Each school has some choice on how to run their own group.  We all have similar goals in that we all want to make our schools, the education our children receive and our community a little better each year.  We want to support our hard working teachers and staff, and also enrich the education for our students.  Whether you are a member or not, you are always welcome to bring forth your ideas, come to meetings, or encourage your child to become more involved in PTSA.  We as a board hope this web page is useful to you.  Contact any of the board members if you have any questions, concerns or great ideas we can use.

Fundraising Vs. Direct Donation

The board members are, after all, parents.  We don't like all the fuss and frustration that goes into fundraising any more than the next parent.  We much prefer to give people a choice if they want to help out the PTSA and the school financially.  We offer a wide variety of fundraisers throughout the year but will never ask you or your child to individually sell anything! Instead, we prefer to provide community building activities that are engaging, fun, and money-making all at the same time! This year we will continue Chipotle Night, and gift card fundraisers throughout the year.  You may choose to participate as you are able. That being said, giving a direct donation is the fastest and easiest way to impact how much we can do for our school this year....and it is tax deductible!  Direct donations are accepted at any time during the school year by leaving a check in the main office payable to Friedell PTSA. Please click on the "How Do I Become a Member?" tab for a membership/direct donation form to attach with your check.

"What do you do with my hard earned money?"

Here are just a few of the things we have done in the past:

  • Purchased and distributed spiritwear T-shirts to incoming 6th graders and new students
  • Provided a technology grant through IBM for Friedell's first Smartboard
  • Purchased a new popcorn machine for the school
  • Subsidized classroom activities, field trips and materials
  • Paid for school assemblies
  • Supported the Friedell garden
  • Paid for nutritious snacks during MCA testing and as needed for students
  • Helped organize and pay for food for teachers during conferences and other staff recognition events

This year, we are working on:

  • Additional technology grant money from IBM and other grant sources
  • Providing for and organizing the 6th grade dessert potluck
  • Increasing student recognition activities
  • Continued work on the school garden
  • Teacher recognition activities
