PBIS

What is PBIS?

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a program designed to teach ALL students to be safe, respectful, responsible, and productive learners at school.  At Friedell Middle School, we hope to encourage our students to continuously make good behavioral choices by implementing this program.

PBIS provides teachers and other school staff with information and strategies to help prevent behavior problems and help make our school a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn.

PBIS is a research-based program that benefits students:
  • reduction in problem behavior
  • increased student engagement
  • improved academic performance
  • improved family involvement

PBIS at Friedell:

  • All students and staff are taught the school-wide expectations:
    • be safe
    • be respectful
    • be responsible
    • be a productive learner
  • Posters highlighting school-wide expectations are posted throughout the school to remind students of what is expected of them in each area.
  • Students will receive frequent review of the expectations and be acknowledged when they demonstrate them.
  • Most of the contact that students have with adults in the building is positive and prevents behavior from occurring.
  • Staff will use data to help identify students who need additional support.
  • Staff provides consistent, predictable, and fair use of consequences for all students.


For PBIS to work successfully at Friedell, there needs to be a partnership between home and school. Throughout the school year, our PBIS team will send updates and information about PBIS. We invite your comments, concerns, and ideas to make this program work at our school.

Reviewing behavior expectations with your child. Using our four expectations at home. Providing positive reinforcement (rewarding good choices with com-pliments or quality time at home)
